In the beginning of each year, he organizes a U.S. Tournament in downtown, Los Angeles.

Here’s a letter from the Mayor’s office for this event:

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the City of Los Angeles, it is my pleasure to welcome and
congratulate the members and guests attending the U.S. Weight Category
Karate Championships 2007.

The Kyokushin Karate is a wonderful opportunity for martial arts
individuals and group members of diverse backgrounds to come together,
to express goodwill, and to celebrate in the spirit of sportsmanship.

I am pleased to join members of our community in thanking the leadership
of the Kyokushin Karate for another year of service and accomplishment.
I commend all the athletes and coaches for their mental focus and
physical discipline. Enjoy your celebration today, and continue to strive to
reach loftier heights tomorrow!

I extend my best wishes for a memorable celebration and future success.

Very truly yours,

ANTONIO R. VILLARAIGOSA
Mayor

Here’s a letter from the Governor:

International Karate Organization Kyokushinkaikan

I am delighted to extend my warm greetings to all who have gathered for your
2007 U.S. Weight Category Karate Championships.

California is honored to host events that enrich our state’s diversity and
promote the physical and mental well-being of its residents and visitors.
Through self-discipline and hard work, all of today’s competitors will
showcase remarkable skill and spirit.

As a former professional athlete, I know firsthand the desire and commitment
it takes to be successful. All of you participating have worked very hard to
get to this point in your athletic careers, and while not everyone can finish in
first place, I am certain that every Kyokushin practitioner is a talented athlete
with tremendous heart.

On behalf of all Californians, please accept my best wishes for a memorable
event and for every future success.

Sincerely,

Arnold Schwarzenegger
Governor
